What is Sunrise and how does it work?
Like many other top level domains, .eu has a period before opening for general registration of domain names where holders of prior rights and public bodies can apply for domain names. This phased registration is often referred to as Sunrise. It is done in accordance with the EU regulations EC 733/2002 and EC 874/2004. The objective is to avoid so called cybersquatting. The Sunrise period started on Dec 7, 2005 and continues until the general registration begins on April 7, 2006. It is divided in two parts of two months each. See more about Sunrise on the EURid website.
